Founded in 1952, Zhejiang Province Institute of Architectural Design and Research (ZIAD) is the earliest design institute in Zhejiang Province. ZIAD is an institute unit directly affiliated to Bureau of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of Zhejiang Province, It adopts enterprise management and is a comprehensive architectural design and consulting organization enjoying high social reputation.

ZIAD has been insisting on the tenet of "innovative design, optimal quality, faithfulness, factualism, unity and competitiveness" and engages ourselves in architectural engineering design and consultation, compilation of urban and rural planning, engineering design of architectural intelligent system, interior decorative design, geotechnical engineering design, municipal public facility design and consultation, landscape design, engineering feasibility research, civil air defense design, project appraisal, construction cost consultation, project management and general contract, etc.

ZIAD has 720 employees in total, including 606 technicians, 2 national engineering designers, 5 provincial engineering survey designers, 3 provincial outstanding contribution young experts, 72 professor-level senior engineers, 165 senior architects and senior engineers, 89 national class I registered architects, 81 class I registered structural engineers, 13 registered planners and over 100 other registered professionals.

ZIAD owns 8 comprehensive architectural design institutes and 11 professional design institutes or branches, including planning and urban architectural research institute, intelligent architecture design and research institute, green building engineering design institute, underground engineering institute, cavernous city design institute, municipal design branch, No1.and No2. landscape design institutes, No1.and No2. decorative design institutes, building curtain wall institute, etc. ZIAD has 8 research centers, including EPC management center, construction cost consultation center, BIM center, engineering standardization research center, mechanical and electrical engineering consultant center, building industrialization research center, characteristic town development center, fully decorated house design center, etc., and 10 functional departments, as well as four subsidiaries, including ZIAD Technical Development Center, ZIAD Engineering Consulting Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Huazhi Architecture Design Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Huazhi Architectural Technique Promotion Center, etc. In addition, ZIAD also sets a branch in Wenzhou.

ZIAD insists on the design concept of innovative development, having great advantages on the aspects of design of office building, hotel building, sports building, traffic building, cultural building and medical building, etc., and leading the industry on the aspects of design of complex over-limit high-rise structure, wide-span space structure and geotechnical engineering design, etc. ZIAD is the only organization in Zhejiang Province having the qualification for examination of construction drawing design document of over-limit high-rise building.

ZIAD encourages technological improvement and technical innovation, having won nearly 400 national, provincial and ministry-level prizes and more than 40 provincial and ministry-level scientific and technical prizes, drafted and participated in drafting more than 50 national, professional and provincial standards, such as professional standard of Design Code for Office Building and provincial standard of Code for Design of Building Foundation, etc.

ZIAD has obtained ISO9001 Quality Management System Certificate in 1997 and has won many honorary titles, including National Excellent Survey and Design Institute, the First National Contract and Credit Respected Enterprises, the 10th Five-Year Plan National Scientifically and Technically Advanced Construction Group, and Civilized Unit of Zhejiang Province, etc.
